Plan an egg hunt your dog can see
Dogs see mostly blues and yellows, so a red or green egg on the lawn nearly vanishes for them. Below, eight egg colours sit on grass, soil and patio stones, as you and your dog see them. Easiest for a dog everywhere: yellow, blue and purple.
Never hide chocolate eggs where a dog can reach them: chocolate is poisonous to dogs. For a dog's own hunt, hide dog treats, and stay close so plastic eggs are not chewed.
Plan your hunt
Tick the eggs you have and pick where you will hide them. The planner sorts them into eggs your dog will spot by colour and eggs that blend in.

Flat colour samples stand in for real grass, soil and stones. "Hard to spot" means the egg and the ground look alike to a dog's colour vision; dogs still find eggs by smell, so colour only changes what they notice by eye.
A simulation made from published eye studies. Not what the animal feels.
Which egg colours can dogs see best?
Yellow, blue and purple eggs stand out for a dog on grass, soil and patio stones alike. Dogs see blues and yellows well; reds, oranges and greens turn into similar dull tones.
Why can my dog not see the red egg on the lawn?
To a dog, red and green look alike, so a red egg on green grass blends in by colour. On the lawn the hard ones are red, orange and green.
