World Animal Day 2026: see the world through their eyes

World Animal Day is on 4 October. This year's theme is "See the World Through Their Eyes", and that is just what this site does: it turns any photo into an animal's view, built from published eye studies. Try three animals below, then your own photo.

A simulation made from published eye studies. Not what the animal feels.

10 things to share on World Animal Day

  1. Dog: A dog sees with 2 colour types; you have 3.
  2. Harris's hawk: A sign you can read from 10 m, a Harris's hawk has to get to about 6.9 m to see as clearly.
  3. Western honey bee: Has 3 colour types like you, but one of them sees ultraviolet.
  4. Brownbanded bamboo shark: Sees no colour at all, only light and dark.
  5. Western diamondback rattlesnake: Keeps no fixed hours: it is up by day and by night.
  6. Rhesus macaque: Sees colours a lot like you do.
  7. Bald eagle: The zone where both its eyes see the same thing is about a third as wide as yours.
  8. Rock pigeon: Sees 4 kinds of colour; you see 3.
  9. Cat: Sees mostly blues and yellows. Red and green look alike.
  10. Portia jumping spider: A friend you can recognise 30 m away, a Portia jumping spider has to get to about 5.6 m to see as clearly.
